Youth
The California Council of Square Dancers encourages its Affiliates and member clubs to provide dancing opportunities for dancers of all ages. Many clubs that are primarily organized for adults also welcome teenagers and younger children into their regular activities. Many events offer special pricing for youth dancers (usually up to age 18).
Other clubs specialize in providing an environment focused on the interests of kids and their families. Festivals sponsored by some of our Affiliates offer sessions intended specifically to appeal to young dancers.
Youth Scholarship ProgramThe California Council of Square Dancers offers an educational scholarship for youth square dancers (up to age 21) who are pursuing post-secondary education. Applicants must have been members for at least one year of one of our Affiliate member clubs. More than one scholarship may be awarded, and the scholarship amount may be up to $750. For details, see the Application Form (PDF).
If you know a youth square dancer going to college, let them know about this! Note: There is also a national scholarship program sponsored by United Square Dancers of America (USDA). The deadline to apply for that scholarship is February 1st of each year. For more information visit the USDA youth page. And if you want to help us help other youth square dancers in this way, you can use this form to contribute to the California Youth Square Dance Scholarship Fund.
